Description:
Early Flow Blue Child's Cup. Looks to be similar to the Olympia pattern by W. H. Grindley shown in The Collectors Encyclopedia of Flow Blue China, pg. 95, Plate 297, which shows a cup and saucer. The child’s cup is nmarked. Tiny porcelain coblat trimmed cup has bands of flow blue at the top rim and bottom edge embellished with gold. The cobalt blue is as vibrant and deep as the day it was made, but the gold embellishment is missing in many areas showing use. Minute chip out of the ring base, (barely visable without a loop and can’t get a close-up pic, it is so small) and appears to be kiln mark, since the blue flows into the tiny void at the base. Made of a heavy porcelain or ironstone, for durability and for tiny hands. Cup measures 1.75 inches high X 1.75 inches in diameter (excluding handle). Very good condition for age and use; most children's pieces do not survive. Some discoloration in the bottom of the cup that looks to be fired into the glaze.
