Description:
This is an antique English victorian silver plated bread fork or roll fork dating 1890-1910. Bread forks were an important part of the victorian dinner service. Bread was a large part of the meal, but it had to be served in style...fingers were not allowed. The bread fork measures 5 inches long by 2 inches wide and has an ornate floral and drapery design on both sides. The New York Times in 1893 mentions bread forks as an important table trend just imported from England and warns diners of fashion to be aware of them and skilled in their use, as good manners expected. Cute! I just LOVE the various victorian specialty silver items! Bread forks today would be a striking and elegant addition to any dinner table, tea table of buffet. Free shipping in the USA included.
