Description:
Unusual High Style Victorian Renaissance Revival Birdseye Maple Washstand. Wonderful contrast between the lighter French polished Birdseye Maple and the Ebonized Birdseye Maple accents. One drawer over a two door storage cabinet. Ebonized panels on the drawer front and recessed oval panels with decorative carved border on cabinet doors. Decorative carving at the top and bottom with ebonized panels in between on the canted corners. Both sides have ebonizd panels and recessed framed insert panels. Most unusual to have all four feet fininshed in the same fashion. Most often the front feet are finished and the rear feet are not, details used by a quality cabinet maker. The drawer is Birdseye Maple lined and the storage compartment shelf and bottom are Birdseye Maple, again a true sign of a quality maker. The marble top has some mirror age discolorations and an unusual design in that it has a full width marble shelf and rounded off cookie corners. Nicely restored cabinet with later drawer pulls, a rare find and most unusual design. Construction and material choices favor the techniques used by the Herter Brothers. Circa 1860's.
