Description: A very fine brooch featuring two matched tiger claws mounted in an ornate gold setting. The gold surfaces are handsomely engraved in an exotic foliate pattern. Jewelry ornamented with tigers’ claws became very popular in the mid-19th century, especially after Queen Victoria became Empress of India. Some of this jewelry was made in India for the English and American markets, while other pieces were mounted in the West with tigers’ claws brought back as souvenirs from big game hunts. The quality of workmanship suggests that this is probably an English piece. Tested and guaranteed at least 18K. Origin: India, England or America, ca. 1870. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 2-9/16” x 1”. NOTE: This item cannot be shipped outside the United States.
