Description:
A very fine mid-19th century diamond, emerald and pearl brooch in the form of a clover. Each of the three leaves is set with rose-cut and old mine-cut diamonds, centered by prong-set emeralds. The leaves are gathered around a very lustrous deep cream 4.5mm natural pearl. The stem is also set with diamonds. The emeralds have deep green coloring with only very light inclusions. The 45 diamonds are G-H color and range from VS1 to SI clarity. The brooch is constructed, in the typical 19th century manner, of 18K yellow gold with a layer of silver over the top. The silver highlights the brilliance of the diamonds. The overall coloring of this brooch is quite bright and considerably more sparkly than many other pieces from the period. The back retains the original c-clasp and slightly extended pinstem.
Origin: Europe, ca. 1840. Condition: excellent, all original. Size: 1” x 1”. Weight: 3.5 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: diamond, 1.0 carat; emerald, .75 carat.
