Description:
A beautiful pair of Victorian 14K yellow gold earrings, each featuring old European round cut diamonds in buttercup settings surrounding an oval mixed-cut ruby. The diamonds are separated by radiating lines of black taille d’eparge enamel. The rubies have medium-dark, moderately saturated, strongly purplish-red. Their noticeable fluorescence makes the rubies even stronger in sunlight. The stones have characteristic intact silk inclusions that indicate they have not been heat treated, and they are probably from the Mogok region of Burma. The diamonds are also of very good quality, estimated at F color, VVS clarity. The size of the earrings makes them appropriate for daytime wear, but the way they hang below the earlobe also gives them a dressy quality. Tested and guaranteed 14K. Origin: America, ca. 1890. Condition: excellent, ear wires are probably replacements. Size: 11/16” diameter. Weight: 5.8 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: diamond, .6 carat; ruby, .54 carat.
