Description: The “Home Vegetable Slicer” from the Specialty Manufacturing Company of Catawissa, PA. This specimen is in Very Good + condition and still retains most of its original paper label stating the instructions and reading in part: “The Home Vegetable Slicer,” Pat. Feb 22, 1898. “Shove the sliding box with the palm of the hand. Hold potatoes and similar vegetables against the back of the box and press down on them with the fingers until making the last slice. For cabbage. Cut the head into angular pieces taking care that a piece of the heart is attached to each piece to hold the leaves together. Press on the piece of heart with the fingers and slice in to it.” This slicer has six slicing blades and the sliding box moves freely. The wood has a very pleasing patina and a smooth hand. The slicer has a length of 17 ½” and a width of 4 ¼”.
