Description: Item/Description: U.S. Navy (USN) Naval Aircraft Carrier "Carl Vinson CVN-70" Fully-Embroidered, Multi-Colored Military Uniform Clothing Insignia Official Ship’s Logo Patch ***”The Seal of USS Carl Vinson shows an eagle, wings spread and talons extended, carrying a banner in its beak. The eagle symbol is emblematic of the nation and the ship's motto, and also represents the power that resides in the ship's aircraft. The eagle flies in the form of a stylized letter ‘V,’ the initial of the ship's namesake, Congressman Carl Vinson. The ‘V’ also represents the ships hull when viewed bow-on. Inscribed on the banner the eagle carries is the Latin Phrase ‘Vis Per Mare’ which means ‘Strength from the Sea’” Excerpted Research Info: “The USS CARL VINSON is the third NIMITZ -class aircraft carrier and the first ship in the Navy named after Congressman Carl Vinson. Representative Vinson was among the nation's leading advocates of naval power. More than any other person, he was responsible for the buildup of the US Navy and its air power before World War II. Launched March 15, 1980, Congressman Carl Vinson became the first person in the history of the United States to witness a launching in his honor. Commissioned March 13, 1982, some highlights about the USS Carl Vinson are that in 1983, the it crossed the Equator the first time at 0 longitude and 0 latitude for shell back initiations; and in February, 1997, it was the platform for the last carrier launches and recoveries of the A-6E Intruder.
