Description:
Here is a lovely set of antique refrigerator dishes from Universal Potteries.
A predecessors to Tupperware, Rubbermaid and Ziploc, these leftover dishes are made of pottery and are quite durable.
This set originally had matching lids, but are quite nice even without the lids. They feature a nice glazed earthenware color band along the top and along the bottom a ribbed or banded, periwinkle blue glazed color.
The larger bowl is just a little over 5" in diameter and 2.75" tall. The smaller bowl is just over 4.5" in diameter and 2" tall. The smaller bowl nests nicely in the larger bowl.
On the bottom of each bowl is a green ink marking under the glaze which reads, "Protected by Design Pat.-107564-65-65 Other PATS. Pending UNIVERSAL POTTERIES INC., CAMBRIDGE, O. Ovenproof Made in the United States of America." THEN THERE IS AN INNER CIRCLE IN A RIBBON THAT SAYS NATIONAL BROTHERHOOD OPERATIVE POTTERS THEN IN THE CENTER IS AN EYE (AS ON CURRENCY) WITH RADIATING LINES. Then something illegible. THEN AFFILIATED & F- - L. BELOW THAT ARE CLASPED HANDS.
Both bowls are in good vintage condition. There are a few cracks and some crazing. Please see photos.
These bowls are being sold as a set.
