Description:
We are proud to offer this legitimate ONE OF A
KIND antique pinched cased glass Silveria vase by
the fabled firm of Stevens & Williams ca.
1901.This spectacular Mammoth 13 1/2"" vase
presents all of the visual features that make it
absolutely unique in the history of hand blown
glass. The iridescent effect of the green leaves
blend wonderfully into a hedge of Wisteria which
is masterfully topped with what might represent
ornate cherry blossoms. Silveria glass is widely
regarded as one of the three RAREST forms ever
produced by Stevens & Williams, and consequently
commands tremendous prices. A rare investment
grade collectible of this nature will do nothing
but appreciate over time. Developed by John
Northwood II circa 1900, it is formed from two
layers of glass with a layer of silver foil
trapped between. Layers of colored glass were
then applied in a trailed or dripped network over
the cased vessel. The luster of the silver foil
is maintained by the exclusion of air in the trap
formed over the base layer.Silveria vases are
generally cabinet size, making this GIANT example
even more unique. Silveria items are most usually
marked with joined S and W letters in script.
John Northwood II was the son of the great John
Northwood I, who was responsible for the other
RAREST Stevens treasures - the Osiris and Mat-Su-
No-Ke designs. John II was also a famed cameo
carver, who became chief designer at Stevens
and Williams at the time of his father's passing.
His most significant achievement was the creation
and making of the fabulous Silveria.Pertaining to
the rarity: there are only (6) known example of
this form / size / & color scheme known to exist,
AND ONLY TWO ARE IN PRIVATE HANDS!!! One of these
vases is displayed at the Broadfield House Glass
Museum in Stourbridge, England; two are in the
Oglebay Glass Museum of W. Virginia; one is in
the Portland Museum of Art, Portland, Maine; one
