Description: Turquoise Spirit Bears and Silver Necklace

This offering is for a turquoise spirit bear fetish and liquid silver like chain. The seven turquoise bears are held in place by small silver beads.

Matching the turquoise to the chart I have, I feel that this stone was mined at the Villa Grove Mine in LaJara, Colorado. It is one of the oldest mines and produced a high percentage of excellent hard blue turquoise.

Zunis feel the bear fetish contains living power. Much of the meaning of this talisman is secret to the Zuni medicine societies, but the feeling is bear fetish has healing powers.

This necklace measures approximately 8-1/4 inches closed and is adjustable to a smaller size, or choker. The bears measure approximately 3/4 inches long by approximately 1/2 inches wide. The chain is marked sterling - 925.

The piece is nicely designed and will attract comments whenever you choose to wear it. It is in excellent vintage condition.
