Description:
Magnificent Walnut Work Box with two views of a Clippers one on the lid and on the front with a paddle steamer. A superb geometrical tunbridge ware border surrounds the picture of the sailing ship and there is a similar border to the front of the box.The interior of the box is lined with pink / purple patterned paper and inside the lid is the same patterned paper borderd with dark red and depicts a scene of three children and a dog picking fruit from a tree. The wooden lift out tray has twelve different shaped compartments which include four square compartments having lift out lids.These type of boxes were made by Lighthouse Keepers who sold them directly to the sailing captains and owners of the ships.Also another theory is these were made ships carpenters, for gift to the loved ones!This box comes with a fully working lock and tassled key.Dimensions: L 13.25" X W 9.50" X H 6"Ref.shipbox11/28
