Description:
Really lovely Mother of Pearl Card Case, whose diamond pattern pieces alternate with pieces of abalone. Tortoiseshell makes up the entire scalloped edge of the case. This is difficult to do as the tortoiseshell has to be steamed into the proper shape and great care must be taken to properly apply it so it does not crack. The inside edge is strung with ivory. The blue velvet interior is a bit faded and worn, but in overall great condition, considering that it is original to the piece. In the elegant days of centuries past, when ladies went calling, if the host and hostess were not in, a calling card would be left with the butler. Elegant, two- toned cases (or three toned like this one), especially with the intricate inlay, were very highly prized.
