Description:
Wonderful pair of Antique Victorian Pique Tortoise Shell Earrings Circa 1850s. Piqué is by definition, gold and silver decoration on tortoiseshell. Skilled artisans, using tortoiseshell as a base, carved out specific designs or shapes from metal and then inlaid them into the shell. These earrings are shaped to remind you of door knockers, angular with a small piece dangling in the center. The inlay pattern is complimentary, with one tiny piece missing at the bottom of one earring. Not very noticeable but worth mentioning. They measure 1.75 inches long (add .5 inch for ear wire) and 1 inch wide across the bottom. Very collectable!
