Description: As their top-of-the-line mantle clock, the MONARCH was given everything the Ansonia Clock Company could add to it's elaborate Victorian design. The top URN finial is original (unlike many found....or not found, on some Monarchs)---and it retains the original 'ears' (side-arms). The fancy dial surround-French sash, is the same as Ansonia used on their glass-domed "Crystal Palace Extra" model. The colorful green and bronze tones on the sash add real 'class' to this clock and mark it as one of the best in the Ansonia line. There is also a little drawer in the base of the clock that folks used to store the winding key or any precious items they happened to have in the house. The Monarchs evolved over the years featuring different ornamentation during their production run. This model has fluted bottom pediments without the medalions that were included on earlier Monarchs. Stamped into the clean brass eight-day movement are the words "ANSONIA CLOCK COMPANY" and also "Patented June 18th 1862". The beat scale on the lower portion of the inside back of the case also bears the "ANSONIA CLOCK COMPANY US" name. This beauty came from a discriminating owner who treasured it for more than 30 years in his own collection of outstanding clocks.
