Description:
c1854-1864 were the hay-days of Ambrotypes. Some were on clear glass, some on rarer "Ruby" glass. The example here is on clear glass. Beautifully tinted. A well dressed middle class trio. But why so melancholy? Are they perhaps grieving for wife & mother? A nice clean Ambro, the only flaws are a short scrape by the boy's hand that rests on his father's shoulder (how it got there I can only speculate. Was it caused in the studio? It came to me in untouched condition) plus the usual mat marks, the odd spot or line. Everything is original incl. the glass. I did place a soft felt behind the image to protect it. The orig. black fabric lining the bottom of the case will be included. The case is in fine condition as is the cut velvet pad. The hinge has been expertly repaired (by me, ha, ha). Oddly, although the case came with the image and both sides match, the latches don't line up. 2 latches, 1 "eye". Hmmm, did the photographer have a case clearance sale that day?.....PLEASE enlarge my photos for a better look....To view MORE IMAGES incl. AMBROS & DAGS I have listed, just click on the "VIEW THIS DEALER'S OTHER ITEMS" button on the left, then type PHOTOGRAPH into the search box. Canadians will pay applicable taxes...Member of "The Daguerreian Society". Shipping to addresses in North America is $8 approx
