Description:
Measuring 10 14" in diameter and 3 1/2" tall, this tin is very old, perhaps as much as 80 or so years. On the inside of the cover it tells about the first fruit cake, saying, "Once upon a time, so legend runs, a clever cook in one of the ancient castles decided to try an innovation, so instead of steaming or boiling his plum pudding, he baked it in the form of a cake, and himself bore into the feast, on a great platter all decorated with holly, the result of his experiment, a wonderful creation,-the first fruit cake, - which he presented with much pride, to his lord, the master of the castle-....The King and Queen did eat therof, And noblemen beside, And what they did not eat that night, The Queen that night did safely hide." The top of the tin shows the cook bearing the cake to his king and queen and other merry makers. The cover is faded and does show some rust and scratches as does the inside of the tin. In my book this just adds to the charm and would make a great storage tin for stuff. The bottom of the tin is marked Tindeco. There is also a dent in the cover as well as one on the bottom edge. If this were mint, I would not hesitate to pay $80.00 or so for it but I have it priced accordingly to its condition. Happy Collecting!!
