Description: This lovely, somewhat primitive box has soldered corners. The design appears to have been hand applied (hammered?) as the patterns are uneven on every side. I am not that knowedgable about old tin, but I believe this dates it to the early or mid 1800s. The patina has character; there is slight rust on the lid and one side. The edges of the lid are folded and pressed flat. On the lid is a flower that looks like passion flower, surrounded by stylyzed leaves, It was once hinged; the part of the hinge on the lid is still there, but the part on the bottom is gone. This is not noticeable unless you examine it closely. The lids fits snugly on the base.
