Description:
This is an exquisite sterling silver pierced serving spoon by the premier American silversmiths at Tiffany & Co. in a charming pea-pod design from the Vine pattern. This gorgeous spoon exemplifies the beauty and eclecticism of Aesthetic Movement silver and is emblematic of Tiffany's artistry in the later 19th century under the direction of Edward C. Moore. The circular bowl of the spoon is pierced with a meandering vine-like design, while the handle, with curving profile, is elaborately decorated with naturalistically rendered pea-pods and leaves against a textured background that meander elegantly across the handle and wrap around the obverse. This spoon is in excellent condition and is Tiffany's finest quality of flatware. It measures approx. 9" long, and is stamped on the reverse with the maker's mark of Tiffany & Co., the word Sterling, and the letter M for Edward C. Moore indicating pieces made between 1873-1891. This gorgeous antique silver spoon is a rare and lovely example of the height of nineteenth-century American design. A perfect example of when dining was an art!
