Description:
This is a gorgeous pair of sterling silver dishes by premier American silversmiths Tiffany & Co. in the Rococo Revival style. Each stands on an oval low-pedestal base and has a bateau shaped body with an everted, curving rim. The rim of the base is decorated with a shell and scroll border, while the rim of the bowl is elaborately chased with naturalistic and textured flowers and leaves and is trimmed with a delicate flower and scroll border. The interior of the bowl is undecorated but framed with a hammered and gadrooned frame. This lovely Rococo Revival design was the height of fashion when these dishes were made, representing the best taste and craftsmanship. Each dish is in excellent condition and is a very heavy gauge. Each dish measures approx. 7 1/2" long, 4 " wide, and 1 3/4" high. Each is marked under the base with the mark of Tiffany & Co., the words Makers, Sterling Silver, pattern number 6372, order number 8131, and the letter M for Edward C. Moore, head of Tiffany's silver production from 1873-1891. These antique silver dishes are lovely examples of Tiffany's fine craftsmanship in a sumptuous and elegant design. This pair of small antique serving dishes is wonderfully decorative and exceptionally versatile.
