Description:
This Japanese vintage print, “Thunder God" depicts part of Tawaraya Sotatsu's original work, “Wind God and Thunder God". Tawaraya Sotatsu was a Japanese artist and also the co-founder of the Rimpa school of Japanese painting in the early Edo era. Tawaraya Sotatsu's original piece, “Wind God and Thunder God" is a 17th century pair of two folded screens, which can be seen at the Kyoto National Museum in Japan. The original work features Wind God and Thunder God in a gold leaf background, created using the technique known as "tarashikomi" with silver leaf and India ink. The print for sale, features “Thunder God" which is the figure depicted on the left hand side of the original work. It is professionally matted and framed in a lovely bamboo frame and measures, 14.00" H X 16.50" W X 00.75" D, including the bamboo frame.
