Description: Margaret L. Neill’s original ink painting entitled, “Thistles,” is a wonderful, stylized illustration of dried thistles in autumn. Neill drew the thistles in silhouette with varying thickness in line to build mass. The deep black of the silhouetted plants is sharply contrasted by the soft gold of the background. The drawing was double matted in a black bottom mat and golden wheat hued top mat to add a secondary level of contrast to the composition. The artist signed and dated the back of the painting and it reads, “Margaret L. Neill, Nov. 27 1936, No. 17.” The piece has been handsomely mounted in an ornate gold wood frame with intricate beading and carving that compliments the golden tones within the composition. The unique matting and framing presentation of this piece was individually selected and created by Le Chateau’s renowned master framer, Jeanette Shoenrock, and bears her signature on the back. Including the gorgeous frame this piece measures 13 ¾” x 16 ¾” and would be a charming and affordable addition to any collection of autumn-themed décor.
