Republic of Texas ALS requesting the transfer of an estate. 1p. manuscript with docket to verso was filed in the ""Republic of Texas / Montgomery County"" and is boldly signed in fountain ink ""John Castleman."" Letter asks that Castleman be appointed administrator of the estate of his brother, Andrew Castleman, who died in battle. Letter reads in part: "".Andrew Castleman, Brother of the said John H. Castleman, Fell at the Mount of the Brazos and died without leaving any last will and Testament and without making any Disposition whatever of the Estate belonging to said.Andrew Castleman, and whereas the said A. Castleman was entitled to Lands from the said Republic.Your petitioner prays to be appointed Administrator of the Estate of said Andrew Castleman for the purposes.set forth and specified and for all and any other purpose which may lawfully be."" Both John and Andrew Castleman were the sons of Sylvanus Castleman, one of Stephen F. Austin's ""Old Three Hundred,"" the original settlers who received land grants in Austin's first colony located along the verdant bottomlands of the Brazos, Colorado, and San Bernard rivers. Sylvanus was in fact the first of the Old Three Hundred colonists to petition for legal title of such lands. Letter is toned, otherwise near fine.
