Description:
One of the many books from the Estate of Francis P. Fretwell that we will be selling. The library is the largest privately owned collection of dog books in the world. Mr. Fretwell was the owner of Monfret Kennels, which bred champion standard poodles. He was former president and governor of the Poodle Club of America, and the Italian Greyhound Club of America. He also served as a delegate to the American Kennel Club for decades. His wonderful collection of books has been carefully maintained. *** Terrier, V.C. By Julia Lowndes Tracy. London: The Aldine Publishing Co., Ltd., n.d. [c. 1918?]. 48p., illustrated boards, red cloth spine, illustrated throughout by Louis Wain. Introductory note by Lady Smith-Dorrien. A black-and-tan hero who won the Victoria Cross. Each accomplishment attributed to the the little terrier Star has actually been possessed by some dog known to the author. Published for the beneļ¬t of the Blue Cross Fund for the treatment of first World War wounded horses in France. Boards rubbed and soiled, tips worn. Mr. Fretwell's bp on front fixed endpaper. Prior owner's label on front free endpaper, along with gift-inscription dated 1916. Interior pages have some light soiling. Shaken.
