Description:
Here's a true high quality telescope by an internationally famous maker of telescopes, binoculars, machine tools and other precision instruments. Warner and Swasey were in business from 1880 to 1980 when it was sold to Bendix Corp.. Their first telescope was sold to Beloit College for it's Smith Observatory. They built telescopes for a number of institutions including the Lick Observatory, the Yerkes Observatory, The U. S. Naval Observatory, Case Western University Observatory, the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory in Canada and a number of others. This particular telescope is an extremely powerful one with an unusual integral prism system (see photo #4). It's patent date is July 20 1897. It is especially rugged in construction. It has a very precise and smooth rack and pinion focus. It is mounted on an oak and brass tripod adjustable from approx. 3' to 6'. It moves freely on both vertical and horizontal planes. It is in excellent original condition. Lenses are clear and scratch free. Outstanding optics. The heavy brass body measures approx. 13 1/2" when fully open.
