Description:
Here we have a wonderful mahogany longcase clock by the London maker Ben Baddy of Clapham, London. He is listed as working there until 1743. The elegant pagoda topped case is in beautifully figured mahogany and has all the features you would expect in a fine London Clock. It stands on a double plinth and has a raised and moulded panel to the base. The slim straight sided trunk has a long moulded door with a break arch top. The hood has slim columns with brass inlaid stop flutes and brass Corinthian capitals. The very smart pagoda top has a pair of brass ball finials and a fretwork panel to the centre. The good quality movement has five knopped pillars and a fine quality brass dial. The dial has a silvered chapter ring, mask and foliate spandrels, a subsidiary seconds dial, working date aperture and the all important strike/silent selector. The case is in beautiful, fully restored, condition and is a lovely colour. The movement is in good working order with all functions working as they should. It is complete with original pendulum, brass cased weights, bell and a winding key. These good quality London clocks retail for £10000-12,000 so this one is particularly competitively priced.
