Description:
Sumptuous Setting in Beautiful Coles Phillips Drawn 1917 Vintage Jazz Age Ad for Community Plate Silver.Stunning Original Vintage Jazz Age Ad taken from a late, 1917 issue of Ladies Home Journal Magazine. Coles Phillips, artist extraordinaire was always at his best crafting images of divinely regal and beautiful women in sophisticated settings for top of the line products such as Community Silver. With graceful simplicity and a pleasing palette, this ad is one of his best achievements, color, setting and texture are all done with utter attention to detail- note the reflection of the Louis-heeled slipper on the recently waxed floor and the delicacy of the lace against the soft satin drapery of her lavender gown. Oneida Community Plate Ads became collectible as early pin-up art because of the lovely creatures that Coles Phillips created and are still exquisite examples today. Note also the use of snob-appeal with a list at the bottom of the ad of a few of the distinguished patrons of Community Plate; The Duchess of Rutland, Lady Randolph Churchill, Mrs Honore Palmer, Mrs. Reginald Vanderbilt to mention just a few- and the design seen here simple and sleek is the Adam historical and very American to reflect the patriotic feeling of a nation embroiled in a grim battle for overseas victory. Ad is in excellent condition bright and sparkling in person measuring 11 x 16- and image that will win the admiration of all who are privileged enough to glance at it!
