Description:
Old one gallon stoneware jug. Stands 12" high and measures approximately 6" in diameter. Measurement across including the hande is 6-3/4". Probably made somewhere around 1910 - 1920. It is in very good condition with a small chip on the top inside rim being the only damage. No visible cracks. Some imperfections from when it was made. The top half of the jug is dark gray in color and the bottom area of the jug has gray and brown areas of color mixed. The story that came with this jug is that it came out of the family of and was once owned by Wiley Oakley from Gatlinburg, Tennessee. He was born ca. 1885 in what is now the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. When the park was formed, Wiley Oakley became nationally known for his knowledge of and experience in roaming the Great Smoky Mountains.
