Marked ‘Boardman Sterling 706’
We are pleased to offer this pair of Boardman Silversmiths sterling silver salt and pepper shakers.
These sterling silver salt and pepper shakers have a glass liner where the salt and pepper are stored. They are approximately 4” tall. There is a dent on the base of both shakers. There is also a dent on the lid of the salt shaker and some dings to the lid of the pepper shaker. The salt shaker has the smaller holes. Check the photos for pictures of the pieces. Even with the slight damage these are lovely pieces by Boardman Silversmiths and would be a great addition to one’s silver collection.
In 1798, T.D. Boardman and his brother, Sherman, established a pewter and silver business along the Connecticut River in Hartford, Connecticut. As other Boardman artisans entered the business in various places around the Northeast, the Boardman name became renowned for incomparable quality and fine craftsmanship.
The Boardman heritage continues today at Boardman Silversmiths under the guidance and direction of Burton Boardman, President and CEO. Burton, who succeeded his father, Joseph, in 1972, served a youthful apprenticeship in the company under the direction of the master spinners and silversmiths the company employed. Because the firm's President is a skilled craftsman with a deep respect for his colleagues, Burton does things differently. There are no assembly lines, no supervisors - each artisan maintains total control of the custom piece throughout the entire production phase, and is in charge of verifying its flawlessness before he begins to work on it and again after he finishes the piece.
Sterling silver is a white and highly reflective precious metal. Sterling refers to silver that is 92.5 percent pure, which should be stamped on the metal, sometimes accompanied by the initials of the designer or country of origin as a hallmark. Although less durable than stainless steel and other precious metals, sterling silver is often employed in watches that coordinate or look like sterling jewelry.
