Description:
We are offering an exquisite English Sterling sugar castor. Dating from the turn of the 20th century, this castor is large--8 1/4" tall, and is octagonal in shape. The cap is pierced in a lovely pattern, and is surmounted by a graceful finial. It has a rather Moorish feel to it. The hallmarks on the outside are not real plain, but the ones on the cap, which are on the part that slides down into the shaker are very legible. There is the British lion on the left & the letter H on the right. On the panel to the left of the one the hallmarks are on is the number 5. On the underside, the number 5 occurs again along with the numbers 225-23, which appear to have been etched on by hand. The cap slides off easily, and there are no dents. We will be happy to cosider reasonable offers on this piece.
