Description:
In the 1920s The Peter Mueller-Munk Studios in New York City designed and manufactured Sterling objects, including these wonderful candlesticks. The firm did a lot of custom designs for it's prestigious client list even with silver becoming less popular than earlier decades. He remarked in 1929 "I have the outmodish confidence that there will always remain a sufficient number of people who want the pleasure of owning a centre piece without being forced to share their joy of ownership with a few thousand other beings". He made silver as an art for the individual buyer. Today his work is museum quality; the above quote came from Judy Rudoe, Assistant Keeper the British Museum in London at a symposium in Berlin On October 6, 2001.These are delightful candlesticks that will well fit any table or mantle. An additional feature are the two removable candle cups that have a Deco hand pierced design; each cup weighs in at 16 grams. Each candlestick is weighted, "Reinforced with cement", so a true weight is not obtainable on the main sticks, though their gross weight (without the pure sterling cups) is 227 grams each. The sticks stand 3-3/8 inches, and the cups bring the total height of each to 4-3/4 inches. One stick is damaged on the bottom of the base and is pictured. Here is a delightful item for yourself or as a gift to give to someone special at a reasonable price, a sterling object made by a German born American designer who won recognition and many awards for his work in the 1920s and 1930s.
