Description: The Birmingham Guild of Handicraft was founded in 1895 by the architect Arthur Dixon. They specialised in the Arts & Crafts style, simple designs without any undue ornamentation, with a hammered finish. This finish was adopted as a signature of the Arts & Crafts style in later years. Note the year, 1895, and the date of this tankard, 1904. This firm and their associate C.R. Ashbee, who founded the Guild of Handicraft in London, were probably the earliest exponents of this genre. The tankard is in exquisite condition without blemish or inscription. 7.5 " high. 17 troy oz.
