Description: French stereo viewer. Here is something fairly incredible in the line of stereopticon stereo viewers. This one is I believe French.It is a wooden box that is covered in an interesting pattern with original green paper.The label on the top reads Brevet D" Invention SGhe du Gouvt. The box is a rather primitive style- it is completely hand made.There is a accordion type pull out section on the front with the optic.You open the top lid and you open the rear lid to view the slides.Very primitive.The slides appear to be hand colored or tinted print that is applied by glue to a very simple wood frame.Ont of the slides has a title printed on the back.,They all look very interesting.There is one in particular that is exceptional-It shows chandeliers in a room and the chandeliers have been sewn through with a metalic thread and gives the illousion as though the chandeliers are lit.The viewer is in fairly good condition.A small tare in the accordian seam and would be realitively minor repair as it looks as if the thread has come unraveled.I am sure that you will love this early 19th century item.Closed the viewer is 6" long and is 13 3/8" opened.BLUE DOLPHIN FINE ANTIQUES
