Description: Antique Staffordshire recumbent deer with squirrel spill vase, Wood Family, ca. 1820-30, Burslem, England. 5 inches L, 5 W. Hollow thin pearlware body with overglaze paint, superb modeling with free-standing leg plus a delightful squirrel perched on a branch and munching a nut. Squirrel's toes can be counted, they are so detailed. Professional old repair to rim of tree, some re-paint on deer's body. Regardlessless of age flaws, this is a beautiful example of such very early figures now hard-to-find. In a private collection since 1920.
