Description:
Offered for sale is a mid 19th C Staffordshire stoneware / parian water jug. This lovely soft white water jug has a cherub on each side of it's body, with rose and vine, and crosshatch screen decoration surrounding its body. The spout is embellished by scrollwork, and the handle is a series of scroll and ribbing. Rococo Revival in style, this jug is glazed inside, with a "natural" finish on its exterior. The base of the jug has no markings to indicate a maker. It is in "as made" condition. With the exception of a very small (less than 1") hairline inside the jug near the handle which is almost certainly a firing flaw as it is beneath the glaze, this water jug is in very good condition. Measuring 9 1/4" high to the top of its handle x 6" wide across its body x 8 1/4" deep from spout tip to handle tip, and weighing 2 1/2 lbs / 11.34 grams, this delightful jug is offered for sale at $175.
