Description:
“Squirrel Peeking” is a wonderfully detailed, original chalk pastel drawing by talented artist R. Brown. A squirrel, seemingly surprised, peeks out of its tree niche to survey the area. Its cheeks are stuffed with the day’s gatherings that may be deposited in its secret burrow within the trunk. Brown has rendered the squirrel in great detail as everything, down to each tiny whisker is fully articulated. The skillful use of light and shadow gives depth to the composition as the niche in which the squirrel is nesting fades into darkness beyond it’s head. The piece has been double matted in deep umber which echoes the areas of shadow within the drawing. It has been mounted in a bamboo style frame with a rich patina showcasing hints of browns, reds, and golds that compliment the earthy tones of the tree trunk and bringing the total measurements to 16 ¾” x 22 ¼”. The unique matting and framing presentation of this piece was individually selected and created by Le Chateau’s renowned master framer, Jeanette Shoenrock, and bears her signature on the back. The artist’s signature can be seen in the lower left corner reading “R.
