About the author Robert Copeland was born in 1925, the younger son of Gresham Copeland, partner in the family-owned Spode manufactury in Stoke-on-Trent. In 1979 he became the historical consultant to Spode Limited and he has augmented the collection of the Spode Museum Trust.
