Description:
Sweet and simple, Aguilar-style …
Hector Aguilar began his career as the manager at William Spratling’s Taller de Las Delicias, in 1936. He later opened his own workshop, Taller Borda, which he ran until 1966. His jewelry was always of the finest construction, materials, and ingenuity; and owning an original Hector Aguilar is owning a true treasure. Most likely created in .940 silver, this striking pair of earrings, while gracefully feminine, still boasts the Maestro’s robust répoussage and bold design. Depicting small bows, each earring is comprised of a spray of “tassels” that fan out on either side of the bow’s “knot.” Small hemispheres accent the tip of each tassel. The backs of the earrings are fitted with screwback findings.
Hallmarks: HA {in intaglio and conjoined}. This particular Aguilar mark was used between 1940 and 1945. The earrings test for a high silver content. Dimensions: 5/8” x 1-1/4”. Weight: Each earring weighs approximately 5.3 grams. Condition: Collector quality. Book Piece: The button version of these handwrought earrings is featured on page 212, illus. IV-115, of Penny C. Morrill’s definitive reference book, Silver Masters of Mexico.
