Description:
THIS IS A NEW LEVEL. It was made by a very talented gentleman in Indiana, and modeled after the levels made by Stratton Brothers just after the Civil War. Stratton levels were works of art, as well as being usable tools, and this little level follows in that tradition.
Measuring 8” x 1.5” x 1” , the level has a mahogany body, and is fully brass-bound. The plumb bubble is located in the end cap, just as it was on the original Stratton instruments.
The top plate of the level is engraved:
“Kelly’s Levels, New Castle, Indiana”
And
“Stratton Brothers
Patented
July 16, 1872
Oct. 4, 1887”
As you folks who collect tools know, the smaller Stratton levels are scarce, and becoming very pricey. While no one would mistake this one for an original Stratton (if they read the engraving) it is every bit as artistic and well-made as the originals. It would not be out of place in any collection of levels.
