Description: Great find in an old herring jar-marked "Griffin Spiced Herring" in cobalt blue with a shape of a fish on the jar! It is 8 inches wide and 9.5 inches high to the top of the wire bail. It is a piece of hand-turned pottery as can be seen inside the jar--the rings make it authentic! The lid is marked "No 5", plus the following: "Western Stoneware Company, Monmouth, Illinois. We estimate it dates back to the very early 1900's or perhaps even earlier.
