Description: Mounted to board; signed in pencil recto on the mount. Sonya Noskowiak (1900-1975) met Edward Weston in 1929, and began a personal and professional relationship with him that lasted until 1934. It was Weston who encouraged her to take up photography. She was a founding member of Group f.64, contributing prints to the group’s first exhibition in 1932. Noskowiak opened a commercial studio in San Francisco, specializing in portraits and fashion photography. In 1939 she participated in the exhibition Scenes from San Francisco at the San Francisco Museum of Art, and in 1965 she was featured in the Oakland Museum's exhibition of photographs from the WPA.
