Kiln (Yao): YingQing Yao(kiln)

A gorgeous YingQing Yao Lotus form covered jar in bluish-white. Even during the Song dynasty, the YingQing Yao (kiln) was revered as one of the best kilns in China. They produce flawlessly strong, yet very light-bodied, beautifully decorated, monochrome wares in white that exhibited a hint of blue. Their wares were much sought after by the Imperial Court as well as wealthy commoners. This jar is an excellent example of YingQing workmanship. Showing beautiful balanced form with carved lotus bud reliefs. The glaze is a faint blue-white that covers the exterior and interior of the jar. The lid bottom, body mouth rim and inner foot rim are unglazed and exhibit an orange-rust color.
