DingYao ware is the famous white monochrome ware made in the northern Song dynasty DingYao kilns. Centered in Hubei and Henan, these kilns produced exceptionally high quality porcelain wares that were exceptionally thin, light and strong. They were also famous for their monochromes of pure white, black or brown. Their forms were perfect. Their styles were perfect. Even during the Song dynasty, the DingYao kilns were reknown as one of the 5 best kilns in all of China and their wares among the most highly sought after! This Meiping is tall and has a classic broad chest with molded lion masks. Lions were a very popular theme in Confucianism from it's very beginning, during the 5th century BC.
