Description:
Even though this is a historical document, I find it very hard to write this description, as I feel that is one period in our history that is very heart wrenching. This framed document, is hand written in quill pen& dated 1853. Alabama Inventory of 11 slaves sold on the steps of the Alabama Court House in Tuskin Alabama.” The probate court for the county of Macon held a slave auction for the estate of John F Martin and Inventory of 11 slaves were sold and the 12th slave was unable from sickness to be brought out. Prices ranged from $200 to $1400. Peggy an old slave was sold for $200.00 and three brothers and sisters of child’s ages were sold to one new owner for $1400. This hand written document is now 155 years old & is in outstanding condition. On the reverse of this document is the remaining legal text of this estate. This document has been recently framed in museum quality frame. The interior double matt is in pale celadon green linen with a silver interior molding. The frame is carved wood with gesso & gold gilt in a very reserved classical design. The sight size of the document is 7 ¼” x 9 ¼”. The overall size in the frame is 14 ¼”x 17 1/8”. I do wish that this document had been framed in a double sided one so as to allow the verso contents to be viewed, but that can always be changed easily enough.
