Description: These beautiful Stan David prints are a series of six. It is very rare to find the whole series of six. A great thing about these six prints are that there is no fading or foxing as they have been kept in a portfolio for the past 70+ years. Purchased in the 1930's at Chicago Gift Show (only the second year that they had the gift show). They were bought for an art shop to be framed and never were. Thus they stayed in the portfolio they came in. The first picture of all of them together is the true untouched colors as i photographed them. I don't know why the others pictures are lighter colored except I was up close. They are all marked with the titles: Mazurka 1-6. The Mazurka (English pronunciation) originated in the province of Mazovie, Poland of near Warsaw and became its national dance. The Polish national dance spread to England and the United States at the beginning of the 19th century but because it is a very difficult dance to learn, it didn't gain great popularity. It is danced by four or eight couples and characterized by stamping of the feet and clicking of the heels. These prints are done in the beautiful vivid hand colors popular in the late 1800's. This is the period of their costumes. It is common to find ladies dressed in their finery period prints but not men. Note the military dress on the men. These 8” X 10” prints were done in the 1930's which is when they were purchased. They are marked with a title bar at the bottom. It reads; Copyright Stan David-Made in the USA to the left of the title and Published Stan David Studio-New York, New York to the right of the title. This is a case of I have had them 30+ years getting them from my Grandmother who was always going to frame them someday and so was I but here they are still unframed. I thought since I am cleaning out some things that I would offer them here on goantiques and just maybe someone would enjoy them in the set of six and get around to framing them like they deserve to be.
