Description:
This is a very beautiful Italian Rococo Art Nouveau Buffet / Sideboard. It is made of Burl Walnut and Giltwood. It is in very good condition. The Large Gallery is splendid! It has a Pierced Acanthus Leaf Cartouche at the center. A myriad of large Carved Foliage flows around the perimeter of the Mirror. There is another Cartouche at the bottom of the Mirror. The inside of the Mirror's Frame has a very fine Egg & Dart Pattern flowing around it. The Mirrors are original! They have a beautifully etched design flowing around their perimeter with Rosettes at each corner. The interesting thing about this Buffet is that the Scrolling Foliage continues to flow down the sides and encompasses the Mirrors which are below the base. This peculiar, yet, fabulous design gives the impression that it is a spectacular Case Piece which has been placed in front of a massive Pier Mirror. It creates a lovely interplay. This Buffet is quite large and needs room to be viewed properly. It is a dramatic Statement Piece! The top of the Buffet is made of Viridian Green Marble with white and black veins. The Marble appears to have been repaired at some point. However, it has no obvious damage. The Base has a Fall Front at the center flanked by Three Drawers at each side. The Fall Front is spectacular! It is a masterpiece, carved in Walnut, depicting Winged Goddesses with Bows pointing to a Flaming Torch. The detailed Beading of the carving is excellent. It is framed in an Egg and Dart Carving. The Fall Front opens to reveal a Mirrored Interior. This Compartment was created for use as a Cocktail Cabinet. You can entertain in style with this luxurious piece. The Drawers which flank the Cocktail Cabinet are beautifully made. They curve lushly on their outer edges. They have fine Dove Tail Joints which is an indication of the excellent quality of the Cabinet Maker. The Drawers open to reveal roomy interiors. The Buffet has its' original hardware. This includes the intricately formed Rococo Knobs, Scroll Work Escutcheon, Lock and Skeleton Key. Flanking the Drawers are splendidly carved. large Corinthian Capitol Columns. They are imperative to the overall design of the piece. The Base has spectacular, Pierced Acanthus Scroll Supports at the front! These connect to the Under Tier below. The Scrolls are large and lushly carved with a Rococo Shell Cartouche at the center. Large Rosette are carved onto each side. The Scroll Work is reflected in the three unusual Mirrors which flow along the back of the Under Tier. The Mirrors has an unusual, curved form and are separated by Feather Carvings. They have an Etched Embellishment around their perimeter with Etched Rosettes at each corner. The Under Tier is a gorgeous place to display additional China. The Buffet is supported upon beautifully carved Baluster Turned Feet with Acanthus Leaf Embellishments. This is a very fine Italian Rococo Art Nouveau Buffet. It has a rare Mirrored Design which makes it quite special. A chandelier reflecting in this beautifully mirrored Buffet would be a magnificent sight. If you have been searching for an opulent entertainment piece for use as a Back Bar, this is perfect. Your wine and liqueur collection could be stored on Under Tier below. This is a very special piece of period furniture. It will make a dramatic impact upon the design of your home.
