Description: This is Ships & Sailing, Volume One, Number Ten, March 1952. Contents include: "Chicago - Seaport on a Prairie" - Fresh water slaps at the pilings in the harbor, but salt-water ships are at home in this thriving inland port (detailed article, photos, and map of the Port of Chicago); "To the ice" - Each spring that cry signals the exodus of the sealing fleet from St. John's to the frozen northern waters (detailed article w/numerous photos); "South in the Herbert L. Rawding" - The old sailing vessels, among the last of their kind, had no motive power except the wind, but three of them, including the Rawding, made many a hazardous voyage (article, photos, and map of route); "The Mimosa makes her landfall" - The Mimosa's navigators saw very little of the sun after leaving the convoy, but they got two sights which enabled them to pick up St. John's at last (article about navigation includes diagrams); "Marine Salon" - photo spread includes pics of fireboat, several square-riggers, and more; "Cruising to the top of the world" - It's called the 'least desirable' trade, and Alaska Steamship alone serves the 'Land of the Midnight Sun' - this detailed article includes numerous photos and a map showing Alaska Line's routes, and a chart with details of Alaska Steamship Company Fleet; "First with steam on the North Atlantic" - When in 1819 the Savannah steamed for 85 hours during an Atlantic passage, few suspected that her example would revolutionize water transportation; "Dry-land purser" - A pretty girl broke the champagne bottle over the Orient's stern, so naturally the ship was hexed, and so was the schoolteacher-purser; "The Carnegie" - this ship was the product of two of the best known yacht authorities in the U.S.: Henry J. Gielow, designer, and Tebo Yacht Yard, builder (1909). She was brigantine-rigged; "The cloud" - The strange dark mass bore down upon the Tusitala, and only the sea was undisturbed; "the model shipwright"; book reviews; and more.

Size is 8.25" x 11.25", 66 pages. Excellent condition, with slight shelf wear.
