Description: SHIP'S PORTHOLE NAUTICAL FOLK ART SHADOWBOX - A large,19th century brass porthole having a 12" diameter window and 17 1/2" diameter flange was made into a piece of nautical folk art by Homer Sieder in the 1930's before WW II. Sieder was born in Keyport, NJ and became a prominent sailor and ice boater along the New Jersey coast. In addition, he designed and built many of his own boats and ship models. He was in his 30's when he built this shadowbox model of a two masted schooner. Sieder died in 1999 at the age of 96.
