Description:
Very nice Civil War Period Marine Chronometer by Thomas Adams, London. Neither the box label, dial or movement are numbered which suggests Adams, the maker, sold it to the Davies who were probably retailers of clocks/watches or jewelry in Utica. Thomas Adams, the maker was active in London from 1859. There is no listing for Davies in Mercer's "Chronometer Makers of the World" nor could I locate any information on them thru Google search. At any rate, it is a high quality instrument with a 56 hour fusee movement. The movement is especially clean and runs very well. The silvered and engraved dial is very clean . The box has its original finish. It is lockable and the key is provided. Included is a transit/carrying case. A very interesting piece.
