Description:
This unusual walnut and poplar table measures 47” by 25” by 31”high with leaves down, and 47” by 71” with the leaves up. Originally built in the late 1800’s by A.H. Lambert, of Alderson, W. Va., it ran into hard times about 100 years later. One of the original gate legs went missing, and the top, which had the maker’s name and address on the underside was exposed to some serious water, and warped beyond salvation. The missing leg was replaced with a slide to support the leaf, and a new top was made of wide poplar, which was often used in the 1800’s in conjunction with walnut, as the grain is similar, and you will note that the color match is excellent. The table is now in excellent condition, sturdy and attractive.
